CHINATOWN—Want to dine like Benu's Corey Lee at famed Chinese banquet spot R&G Lounge? You'll have to call ahead to order the off-menu lo mei gei, a deboned chicken stuffed with all of its meat, Chinese sausage, glutenous rice, and vegetables. It feeds six people at minimum, and according to Lee, it "perfectly hugs the line between gastronomy and junk food." [SF Mag]

THE KITCHEN—Intrepid SFist reporter/baker Rose Garrett spent two days trying to prepare Caitlin Freeman's signature SFMOMA Mondrian cake from her new Modern Art Desserts book, and chronicled each step of the journey. "I was beginning to see why slices of this cake cost $8 each," she writes after the end of day one. Read on to find out how her cake ended up. [SFist]

THE MISSION—Speaking of cake (and scones, and tea sandwiches, and tarts), Charles Chocolates has announced they'll be offering an afternoon tea service beginning this Sunday, May 26. For $32.50 per person, diners will get their choice of fancy tea or hot chocolate, and a three-tiered plate of treats like chocolate-chip scones, blueberry-ricotta custard cake, sandwiches like 4505 Meats chicken confit on Panorama bread, and, for an extra $16, a 10-piece box of chocolates to bring home. For now, it'll be offered at noon and 2 pm on Sundays and Mondays. [Zagat]

THE MISSION—No plans tonight? Consider rolling over to the Verdi Club for a "Kitchen Confidential" edition of the long-running Porchlight Storytelling series, featuring Laurence Jossel (Nopa), Richie Nakano (Hapa Ramen), David Lynch (St. Vincent), Telmo Faria (Tacolicious), bartender Jill Vice, and writers Mary Ladd and Ali Liebegott. Craig Stoll of Delfina will even co-host. Tickets are $15, and the show starts at 7 pm. [EaterWire]

BERNAL HEIGHTS—The former Bernal Heights Produce at Cortland and Ellsworth is getting a new owner, who also runs the nearby Harvest Hills Market and has been leaving long, weird notes in the window, written in the voice of her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. She's promising gluten-free baked goods and housemade ice cream, and will open in the next couple of months. [Bernalwood]

After more than a decade on Polk Street, Pesce, the somewhat forgotten original Italian spot from the Beretta and Delarosa team of Adriano Paganini and Ruggero Gadaldi, has decided to move across town, snapping up the Castro space that was previously home to long-running 2223 and, more recently, short-lived, Yelp-dissing Jake's on Market. The much larger digs will accommodate the duo's desire to offer space for big groups, and save them the cost of planned renovations at Pesce's original home.

The plan is currently to keep Pesce 1.0 alive and kicking until two or so weeks before its new home is ready for action, and then to move the whole operation, including the staff and menu, to the Castro space. The menu will stay the same (aside from the possible addition of a few more small bites), and the new Pesce will have double the space, with 100 seats to the Polk location's 50. They're targeting an August opening, and will likely also hold on to the original location in hopes of opening a new concept there.

wfedfdsgsdg.jpeg300 Ivy in Hayes Valley is another example of how insane the residential real estate market in San Francisco is right now. 350 potential buyers showed up for the first weekend the sales office was open for the 63-unit project, including some who showed up hours before the office even opened. The latest rental development in the Tenderloin has a name: The Lofts at Seven. The building is located at 277 Golden Gate Avenue, and used to be home to KGO-TV Channel 7's West Coast broadcasting facilities. Developer Dolmen Property Group transformed the building into 88 loft and studio rentals, which encourages potential renters to "live urban" and "live connected." The location's within walking distance of hot tech offices like Twitter, Dropbox, Yammer, and Square, as well as UC Hastings College of the Law and an Academy of Art University. Because of that, residences were "designed with the young professional in mind." That means there's hardwood flooring, stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, and chrome fixtures in the bathroom.

The building's on schedule to open in July. It features 31 studios, 12 junior one bedrooms, and 45 split-level one bedroom lofts. Studios range from 276 square feet to 450 square feet, junior one bedrooms range from 400 to 525 square feet, and lofts range from 400 to 850 square feet. Building amenities include a 6,500 square foot landscaped roof deck with an outdoor cinema and underground parking and bike storage.

http://stirredstraightup.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-window-into-our-soul.html

We have many loves here at SSUWAT: men, minks, minxes, etc., etc. Count music, too, among our very greatest loves, although we don't place too much of an emphasis on it here. But with over 50,000 songs loaded on our iTunes (40,000 of which barely squeeze onto our iPod), crateloads of vinyl and compact discs in storage, and a song in our hearts all the time, believe us when we say that music plays a very real, very profound role in our everyday lives.

Although we do custom-craft carefully chosen playlists for our friends, which are highly coveted amongst a discerning few, when we listen to music on our own, that generally means that the iPod is set to "shuffle." We like the element of surprise, as well as the inadvertent (or is it?) black humor of the Pet Shop Boys brushing up against, say, Georgia "Her Nibs" Gibbs, as just happened a few moments ago.

In discussing this with our beloved friend, Thombeau (of the legendary, dearly departed blogs Planet Fabulon, Chateau Thombeau and, most recently, The Redundant Variety Hour), he quipped that such mad, mashed-up meetings of musical minds was a "window to your very soul." And so, in keeping with that spirit, we decided to throw open our musical shutters to you, and made note of what played when we left our iPod on shuffle mode over the course of 40 songs, then recorded the results here. Since we're also obsessive-compulsive about accompanying our files with the scrupulously exact artwork (single versus album mixes, alternate versions, etc.), fellow fans of album cover art, picture sleeves, and record labels may enjoy browsing through the selection of images in addition to perhaps being inspired to listen to some of these tracks. Whether this bores, entertains, titillates or mystifies, we have no idea; but, whatever the case may be, you will have gotten to know us a little better.
